CLUB NEWSLETTER SUMMER 2006
The
Mirror Regatta over the Easter Weekend was a great success and the
committee wishes to thanks all the members who gave so generously of
their time to make it so. We also wish to record our thanks to
Mullingar Sub-Aqua Club and Westmeath Civil Defence without whose
assistance the event would not have been possible.
The
new season has started rather late this year mainly because of the
weather. However it is now in full swing with racing on Sunday
afternoons and Wednesday evenings. The committee has drawn up the
schedule of races for the season.
Because
we will also have racing on Friday evenings from June it has been
decided to run the series on the basis of Sunday, Wednesday or Friday
racing. This means that if you are unable to come down for any
particular day, for example Fridays, you can still compete in the
Sunday series or Wednesday series. There will in general be four
or five races in a series with one discard. So we want to see as
many boats as possible out each day.
The
series have been set out not to interfere with any of the GP14 Class
Association of Ireland calendar. So anybody travelling to any of these
events will not miss out on the club series.
Those of you who have not yet brought down your boat yet please hurry along and do so.
As
usual the club will be conducting both adult and junior courses this
year. The dates for these have been finalised. The adult
course will be conducted on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings form
the 12th to the 23rd June so if you know of anybody who would like to
learn to sail, tell them to come along. The cost of the course is
simply the club subscription.
This
years Junior Course will run from the 3rd July to 21st July, Monday to
Friday. James Hackett is this year’s junior organiser and
he has his instructors in place for all levels including Level 4
Racing. The cost of this course is €350 for non-members,
€300 for members for the three weeks. A €100 refund will be
made at the end of the course for each boat used on the course.
The
club has a new website thanks to the excellent efforts of club
treasurer, Brian Walker. The address is www.msail.net . It is
well worth visiting with lots of useful information about the club and
lots of links to other relevant sites along with some excellent
photographs of the Mirror Regatta. Application forms for
membership and for the courses are available on the website.
