Nwesletter Spring 2006

The Commodore and Committee wish all members and their families a Happy New Year with plenty of good sailing in 2006.

It is intended that a Club Newsletter will be published three or four times a year in order to keep Club members informed of any news or developments.

This is going to be a very busy year for Mullingar Sailing Club with two regattas scheduled for the coming season. The first of these is the Mirror Westerns due to be held on Easter Saturday and Sunday, 15th and 16th of April. It is expected that sixty boats will attend. It is hoped that as many of our own Mirror sailors as possible will take part.

In order to have as many Mirror sailors as possible “up to speed” there will be two training weekends held on the 1/2 and 7/8 April. These weekends will include instruction on the proper rigging of boats, Racing Rules, tactics and starting procedures. All those interested in competing in the regatta should attend. The club will also be sponsoring special prizes for the prizes for Mirror sailors from Mullingar. The fleet for the regatta will be divided into Gold, Silver and Bronze Fleets with prizes for each fleet.

This years Annual Club Dinner will be held on Friday 24th March at 8.00PM in The Tinteáin Restaurant in Multyfarnham. Cost will be in the region of €34.00 per person. Meeting in Weir’s Pub beforehand. Please inform the Secretary (044 42058) or any member of the committee if you are attending. We look forward to seeing as many members as possible at what is always a very enjoyable night.

A group from the Club have arranged a sailing trip for a week in Croatia. Fly direct from Dublin to Dubrovnik & sail for a week in a 6-berth Sun Odyssey 34.2. Dates 24th June to 1st July. Cost for flight & boat less than €600. Bookings already made - a few places left on third boat. Contact Michael Collender on 087-2529433.

A group from Mullingar Sailing Club have arranged ISA approved competent crew & day skipper courses with Carlingford Yacht Charter & Sea School commencing on Monday April 17 (Easter Monday) for 5 days. Price €600. Qualifies to get ICC Cert which is required to charter a boat abroad. Contact Brenda Loughman on 087-2442323 or 044-47863.

The Committee would remind members who have stored their boats in the Show Grounds that the €20.00 fee is payable to Garry Walsh, who is collecting it on behalf of the Show Committee. As this is a very useful facility it would be a pity to lose it because of non payment. So if you have forgotten to pay please do so now.
